The date was April 25, 2021, it was just another typical day in our lives. Since it was a Sunday, I (Asish) had gone to church for the evening service alone due to the Covid restrictions. I got back home by around 10:30pm, and found Tisha doing some household chores. I quickly changed to my sleepwear and headed off to bed, dozed off immediately, and the next thing I know is Tisha’s waking me up at around 2am, telling me that she has started to have her contractions and that we need to get to the hospital fast—our Ob-Gyn had told us on our last visit that because the baby has reached full term we need to get to the hospital ASAP if there are any contractions—and that’s the beginning of Dane’s Birth Story.
Both Jayden and Noah had come in the early hours of the day, and so it appeared that their baby brother would also be following in their footsteps. Speaking of Jayden and Noah, well, getting them up and dressed to get to the hospital was a mountain of a task, poor boys, they were both fast asleep, and now, awakened in the middle of the night, it took them a while to figure out what was really going on 🙂 Somehow, they got the message that the baby was coming soon, and seeing their mommy in anguish urged them on forward. We quickly grabbed the bags that we had packed earlier for just a time as this and headed out to the hospital. Thankfully, we got there in less than 10 minutes; the roads were empty!!
While at the hospital, we went through with the normal procedures, and I got Tisha checked-in into the maternity unit, but unfortunately, because of the Ob-Gyn’s personal preferences I wasn’t allowed in—the nurse assisting her told me that the Ob-Gyn isn’t comfortable with anybody else being in the same room with the mother during the delivery—so I wouldn’t be seeing Tisha again till after the delivery, and I had to head off to the waiting room with our two boys. I then called up my parents and my sister’s family to inform them that we were at the hospital because Tisha had gone into labor. So, they also got there shortly.
Meanwhile, I (Tisha), went in for the third time in my life to the delivery room. As there were only two nurses and one too many deliveries to be carried out , I was, for the most part all alone in the delivery room. While lying down there on the bed and contemplating about the happenings, John 16 : 21 came to my mind. ” When a women is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. And that, my friends, is precisely what happened in that room and God blessed us with Dane.
One thing that we were really THANKFUL for in both Jayden’s and Noah’s birth was the really short amount of time that Tisha was in labor, both of them came out fast. So, we were hoping and praying that that would be the case this time around as well. My parents and my sister and her husband were also hoping for the same, so they stayed around in the hospital waiting room for a while, hoping to see the newborn before heading home, but then seeing our boys in their tired and sleepy state, they thought it best to take them and leave. So, I said my goodbyes to them and send them off to my sister’s home.
But, shortly after that, the attending nurse came into the waiting room and told me that the baby will arrive at any minute now, and by God’s grace that is exactly what happened!! Dane was born at around 3:45am, weighing in at a little over 6.5lbs. I was finally allowed in and got to meet our newborn by around 4:00am, and in those initial moments where I was again reunited with Tisha, we prayed and thanked God for his faithfulness.
The nursing staff at the hospital were dealing with a lot of pregnancies that morning, but still, they were able to provide us with a lot of care and attention. After a while, we were admitted into the regular ward, Dane was brought in shortly after they had cleaned him up. We had a BEAUTIFUL MORNING that day when the sun finally rose, and that reminded me of a verse in the Bible, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
In the evening, my parents and my sister’s family along with Jayden and Noah came to visit us at the hospital, the boys were so EXCITED to finally get to see their baby brother!! After they all left, we settled in for the night at the hospital with our newborn. We had him all swaddled up and he slept quite well that first night.
The very next day we got discharged from the hospital and got back home with Dane at around the afternoon time. And that was how the Lord blessed us with our third child. Truly, we were able to taste and see the goodness of our Lord in all of this, and he still continues to lead us on forward.
Along with all the responsibilities for that day, primarily to be of help to Tisha, I also had the responsibility to capture our memories on camera of our first day with Dane. These are pictures that we love and cherish in our home, and they bring us so much joy for they serve as a wonderful reminder of God’s faithfulness.
