“A good book is a MAGIC GATEWAY into a wider world of wonder, beauty, delight, and adventure.”
Now that schools have closed for the winter break, it would be the ideal time to give your children a much needed respite from the screen. 2020 has been a year quite unlike any other, since most of the children were being homeschooled on Zoom and other similar platforms they’ve had their fair bit of screen exposure.
So, there’s no excuse now not to take them outdoors, but we do understand the need to balance this desire in light of the current scenario. There is another option, and it doesn’t come with cables attached….READING!
“Books are experiences that make us GROW, that add something to our inner stature,” that is a quote from the book, “Honey for a Child’s Heart,” by Gladys Hunt. A book that we highly recommended for parents who would like to introduce their children to the world of books. We would like to share with you all in this post what we have learned after reading this book.
We live in a wonderful world that God has made, and as parents we have the privilege of “bringing to the uncluttered, supple mind of a child the DELIGHT of knowing the many rich things that God has given us.” Books are the “KEENEST TOOLS” in the hands of a parent to accomplish this purpose. Children are very imaginative, and love the fun of words, but they are not going to just out of the blue pick up good books for themselves, they need the GUIDANCE of their parents. There is so much value in introducing children to “the wonder of words put together in such a way that they spin out pure JOY and MAGIC.” The right kind of books “can give us the experience of words,” it can fill “a child to the brim so that the years ahead will never run dry.”
Books have a wonderful potential “to build a whole, healthy, spiritually alert child who has the capacity to enjoy all the POSSIBILITIES of life.” This does not mean that books are a “substitute for life, but a keener PLEASURE comes to life because of books,” and that is no small thing! “The element of WONDER is almost lost today with the onslaught of the media and gadgets of our noisy world. To let a child lose it is to make him blind and deaf to the best of life.”
We hope that this post would encourage you to pick up this book, it will surely be of great to help you to understand the value and worth of reading good books, and guide you in choosing the right books for your child.
